Hmmm. Politics on the old site became so intense we moved it off the whole site to new one and banned it. Hopefully we are older and wiser now.
Just as I could never understand how the USA could re-elect George W., I cannot, as a Brit, see exactly why a president who is trying to give all Americans access to free healthcare is branded a 'Commie'. But then I subscribe to the Michael Moore site and newsletter just to see what the old propagandist is up to now. I've read Obama's autobiography and as an English graduate found it accomplished, realistic and brave. It all looks racist to me, OMG, and partly about the fear the Credit Crunch has brought to the USA. That was NOT down to Obama, but to greed. |

Is behind all of these protests, and it's nothing new, just
intensified by the media and the internet. This article in one of my favorite magazines sort of placed it in the nutshell which, if looked at with intelligence
and rational thought, is where it all belongs. Can't please everyone, all the time end of story. I won't forget the woman down in Florida bawling and
blubbering on national tv about how she wouldn't let her children watch the President's speech on education. When I first watched it, I said to myself,
is she for real? The media in NYC had a field day with that segway, making sure we all could see what being mis-informed and clueless looks like.
Personally I have no problems with the man, he's doing 100% better than the man who was in office for 8 years and had the entire world looking at Americans like we were idiots. President Carter came out and said a lot of this protesting stems from racism and I'm sure coming from Georgia he's seen and heard plenty of things that would make him say that. I mean there is some commentator who continues to call Michelle Obama's family "gorillas," now how ignorant is that? Now as a person of color (who has noticed that 98% of the protesters do not look like anyone in my family), I say give the man a chance, there is way too much wrong he has to right. It would be easier to get things done if he didn't have all of these paranoid people riling people up with more unsubstantiated nonsense. http://nymag.com/news/politics/59265/ CC Write 50,000 words in the space of November ... come

Do I have to weep over America again? I wept and prayed throughout Bush's tenure, now I see devilish unreason and hatred yet again, gleefully running and
rampaging, destroying everything that could be good.
I will say it: the right wing of America are insane devils. chris |

Funny how its harder to fight for peace and common sense, than it is to start wars. It seems to me,
that some Americans do not sit easily with vulnerability, something that 9/11 introduced them to.
When I look at Obama and Michele there's a good feeling of solidarity. When I listened to him talk at the UN, you could see he was proud of America and proud to be an American. He got voted in partly because people wanted a change. But some people don't seem to realise that to bring in change, they and their comfy little nooks will have to go through change as well. So you get the protests. Well these protesters should grow up and realise that they now have a leader who is putting his neck on the line to carry America forward, while carrying a load old baggage from previous presidential bad policies. The fact that the protests have sunk to the depths of racism, is more telling of their lack of intelligence, they obviously haven't got a real argument against Obama's policies. I hope those politicians who came in with Obama, stand together with him openly, and continue their real work of making America a better and safer place. Nothing worth while comes about without some kind of pain. kia ora from Aotearoa

I understand how a lot of people are disillusioned with President Obama,
but the old saying "you can't please everyone" comes to mind and with the media pundits and idiots spewing whatever negativity or exaggerating
facts as much as they can, he can't catch a break. He's damned if he does, damned if he don't. Where were all these critics when Bush screwed this
country into the ground with his cowboy mentality for 8 long and painful years? The office of President has always been a figurehead position, with the Senate
pulling the strings. But this President is attempting to step outside the box, he has a lot of fences to mend both here and overseas.
I have to admit I was surprised this morning to hear that he has won the Nobel Peace Prize, but I can't think of anyone more deserving when you look at how he has tried to bring "the world" together since he's been in office. Again, I say, give the man a chance. CC Write 50,000 words in the space of November ... come

We've just sent more SAS guys over to Afghanistan to help out. The military cannot just exit a
war zone in a short space of time. Before they leave they have to make sure that there is a stable situation in place, and that Afghanistan has enough security
forces and more trained armed servicemen that can maintain that stability once American troops and other countries assisting them go back home. I believe that
Obama is a man of peace, but is in an unenviable position of cleaning up a mess left by others. He is able to see the larger picture of what could happen if he
takes the troops out too early. And he will know only too well that he'll cop a lot of flak for it.

Andy et al rather too - this country is founded on greed. You're sort of implying that it's not supposed to be that way... but this country is
absolutely built on greed. It's called the "go west mentality", because we always "went west" in the beginning. And, if you
don't like it, then screw your neighbor if you want ... oh, ahem... but within the limits of the laws. Compassion does not exist, and why should it?
Compassion sacrifices the security of being able to be say "Screw you, I worked hard for my paycheck buddy..." (which is something those opposed to
Obama's plans, especially with "re-distributing the wealth" often tell me). Here in America, it's perfectly acceptable to take a crap on the
people who don't have the same opportunities as you do... because, well, "I worked hard for that dollar. Get out of my way." But, so did others
- where is their piece of the pie? And then be all Saturn-in-Libra about it (as our country's chart has in it), to say, "Ooops,... did I say that? I
meant, have a nice day... here's some band-aid money... and a nice smile to butt-kiss and make it look all better for the horrible things I've just
done to you..." I step in to this conflict now and then with people here in my country; the ones who whine about universal health care costing them too
much, but they are the very ones who have it already, and turn around, not knowing anything about the Canadian and German healthcare systems, and use the
argument of "But, you'll have to wait for hours in the waiting room just like in Canada or Germany, or months before you get seen by a doctor for a
major surgery..." This is all a bunch of propaganda to save their security (in FACT, there is a very sick and twisted commercial about it here in
Michigan, and OMG I wondered if you have seen it??), but a lot of people believe that propaganda. I luckily have health care through my job. But, why did I
have to wait until I was 27 years old to receive it? I have never seen it through my entire life. I should be entitled to it. I shouldn't have to work
for it!?!? I should have had braces to correct my overbite when I was a kid -- but because my working-class parents didn't have healthcare offered to
them... guess what? I have to chew on onions on my molars, not my cuspids like normal people. Granted, chewing on onions is nothing to really complain
about... but what happens if I would have been in a major accident? Where would the state aid come from? There is none. While it's true that some parts
may be unequal and waiting lines are annoying in those above-mentioned countries (as I remember having to "wake up" the doctor who lived at the
hospital, all dark and lights turned off in that hospital in Karlsruhe, Germany,... all the while, thinking to myself, "They call this an emergency
hospital??"),... I would rather pay in to a system that secures everyone, rather than having an unequal system as we have it now, and then have only SOME
scarce pool of individuals secured on "entrepreneurial spirit", where you "make your dreams come true". I ask, whose dreams?? Not
everyone has the same opportunity as the next person. Why limiting someone's wealth kills entrepreneurial spirit is beyond me. I even had Germans ask me
when I studied abroad: "Scott, is this true?" after an HR class I had where the professor explained how
Americans could make millions and then many lived close or under the poverty line... where in their system, they have things such as "Euro-Jobs" that
the states require them to work (even if at McDonald's), and people who were doctors and lawyers made considerably less but still much more than many to
have a "rich lifestyle" that any man or woman could enjoy just as they do in our country.... it is a CHOICE to be homeless in Germany for example,
but there will be systems set up to help the guy who cannot "function" as everyone else and wants to mooch off that system... whereas in America,...
if you want to piss away and be irresponsible (or make a million dollars that you really don't need but get your jollies off on making and sticking away in
a bank account somewhere as if you're going to take it with you when you die), it's YOUR choice altogether. This individualism is what makes America
"great". In other words, the disparity between the classes is greater here, and so are the incomes. It's fend for yourself. It's not
altogether fair, but it is what it is, and I'm trying to just "suck it up" and get used to it. I have a feeling we WILL NOT see universal health
care in this country. And the reason being, we have too many jerks who think only for themselves and not for everyone else. It's a social
"nicety" when they back down and say, "Yea, ok, you're right..." because it's not in their blood to think beyond their own family
and think about what it might be like for the next guy. There is no sense of social responsibility in this country and it appalls me and scares me that people
just use the phrase, "Hey, buddy, it's my ass on the line, not yours..." Why are Universities and Colleges simply businesses in this country?
Our tax dollars should fully pay for that!!! Simple answer: we are individualists. It's quite clear when we see that Moon is in Aquarius of the USA
chart. The way it begins is the way it ends -- I think we as Americans have to choose the correct target to overthrow. 200-some years ago, it was a King.
Now, we are faced with a different circumstance -- what are we rebelling against now? A man in office who wants to
socialize our country a little bit?? I wouldn't mind paying higher taxes if I knew that I could go and get my eye glasses for $80 instead of $300 just as
I did when I was in Germany, or that my bill for surgery wouldn't come up to nearly over $1000 (and thank goodness I had insurance by that point). My
aching tooth was $75 buckeroos to fix in Germany. In America? Easily pushing $120 or more. Come on. I say, come up with a better argument to those opposed
to a little more social welfare in this country.
